Title: Authorizes Driver's Licenses for Certain Undocumented Immigrants

Vote to pass a substitute bill that authorizes driver's licenses for certain undocumented immigrants.

Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes individuals who are without proof of lawful presence, and therefore ineligible for a social security number, to be eligible for a Massachusetts drivers license if they meet the following requirements, such as (Sec. 1):

    • Proof of identity and date of birth; and

    • Proof of Massachusetts residency.

  • Prohibits a license registrar from inquiring about, or create a record of an applicant’s citizenship or immigration status when processing an application for registration of a motor vehicle (Sec. 1).
