Title: Reduces Criminal Penalty for Certain Cannabis Products

Vote to pass a bill that reduces the criminal penalty for certain cannabis products.

Highlights:

 

  • Amends Penalty Group 2 of the Health and Safety Code by removing the following substances in order to reduce criminal penalties for nonviolent crimes related to cannabis products, including (Sec. 2):

    • Tetrahydrocannabinols other than marijuana and synthetic equivalents, including resinous extravates of cannabis;

    • Delta-1, Delta-3, 4, or 6 cis or trans tetrahydrocannabinol, and thir optical isomers; and

    • Compounds of these structures, regardless of numerical designation.

  • Specifies that Penalty Group 2-B shall consist of the following substances, including their salts, isomers, and salts of isomers (Sec. 3):

    • Tetrahydrocannabinols other than marijuana and synthetic equivalents, including resinous extravates of cannabis;

    • Delta-1, Delta-3, 4, or 6 cis or trans tetrahydrocannabinol, and thir optical isomers; and

    • Compounds of these structures, regardless of numerical designation.

  • Establishes that this act shall take effect September 1, 2021 (Sec. 12).
