Title: Increases Penalties for Fleeing Police

Vote to pass a bill that increases penalties for fleeing police.

Highlights:

 

  • Increases the penalties for a driver that fails to immediately bring their vehicle to a stop when signaled and ordered by law enforcement officers to the following (Sec. 1):

    • A misdemeanor and a fine of no more than $1,000; or 

    • A prison sentence of no more than 6 months, or both.

  • Increases the penalties for a driver guilty of the aforementioned violation after operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner or with wilful disregard for the safety of others or their property to the following (Sec. 1):

    • A felony and a fine of no more than $5,000; or

    • A prison sentence of no more than 10 years, or both.

  • Specifies that this act shall go into effect July 1, 2022 (Sec. 2).
