Title: Prohibits Governor's School's from Using Race as a Factor in the Admissions Process
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits Governor's school's from using race, sex, color, or ethnicity as a factor in the schools admissions process.
Prohibits any Governor’s School or governing board member, director, administrator, or employee from (Sec. 1):
Discriminating against, or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of;
Race;
Sex;
Color;
Ethnicity; or
National origin;
Engage in proxy discrimation; or
Seek information on students race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin during the application process for admission.
Defines “proxy discriminate” as the use of a facially neutral factor in a students admissions that correlates with race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin for the purpose of discriminating against or granting preference to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin (Sec. 1).
Specifies that “proxy discriminate” shall include the use of regional or feeder school caps, quotas, bonuses, zip codes, other geographical or socioeconomic factors, and peer-group characteristics within feeder or other zoned schools (Sec. 1).
