Title: Increases Access to the Death with Dignity Act

Vote to pass a bill that increases access to the Death with Dignity Act.

Highlights:

 

  • Defines “qualified medical provider” as a physician, physician assistant, osteopathic physician assistant, or advanced registered nurse practitioner who has primary responsibility for the care of the patient and treatment of the patient's terminal disease (Sec. 1).

  • Defines “informed consent” as a decision by a qualified patient to request and obtain a prescription for medication that the qualified patient may self-administer to end their life in a humane and dignified manner (Sec. 1).

  • Prohibits an individual from receiving a prescription for end of life medication unless they have made an informed decision (Sec. 9).

  • Authorizes a qualified medical provider to fill a qualified patient's oral request to receive an end of life medication if it is determined that the patient is not expected to survive for 72 hours (Sec. 11).

  • Specifies that nothing in this act shall be construed to prohibit a health care provider from participating in the aforementioned end of life drug authorizations (Sec. 17).
