Title: Continuity in Representation Act of 2003

Vote to pass a bill that would modify federal election laws concerning the Senate and House of Representatives.

Highlights:

  • Requires states, should the number of vacancies in the House of Representatives exceed 100, to hold special elections no later than 45 days after such a situation is announced by the Speaker of the House (Sec. 2).
  • Provides that a special election shall not be required if a regular general election is scheduled to occur within the following 75 days (Sec. 2).
  • Requires state parties to each nominate a candidate no later than 10 days after a special election is announced under the provisions of this act (Sec. 2).
  • Requires states to send out absentee ballots to uniformed services voters and overseas voters no later than 15 days after a special election is announced under the provisions of this act (Sec. 2).
