Title: Requires Local Governments Appropriate Federal Funds for New Housing Developments
Vote to pass a bill that requires local governments appropriate federal funds for new housing developments.
Requires political subdivisions to use no less than $1 million or 10 percent of the total stimulus funds received from the federal stimulus package, whichever is left, for the following projects, including (Sec. 1):
New workforce housing infrastructure, including:
Streets;
Sewer;
Water; and
Sidewalks;
Establishing a low interest or no interest loan program for remodeling and repair expenses related to the rehabilitation of older workforce housing;
Establishing a low interest or no interest loan program for the building of new workforce housing units; and
Redeveloping idle sites currently used for shopping centers, malls, or other commercial property of at least 40,000 square feet to workforce housing.
Defines “political subdivision” as a city, village, town, or county (Sec. 1).
Defines “workforce housing” as housing thats
Been adjusted for family size and the county in which the household is located; and
Based on the county’s 5-year average median income and housing costs calculated by the most recent census survey.
