Vote to pass a bill that requires public schools teach cursive handwriting in their school curriculum in order to receive state funding.

Highlights:

• Requires the state superintendent of public instruction to incorporate cursive writing into the model academic standards for English language arts (Sec. 1).

• Establishes that if the contract is for the operation of a charter school that includes the elementary grades, a requirement that the charter school's curriculum include cursive writing (Sec. 2).

• Establishes that if the private school operates elementary grades, a requirement that the private school's curriculum include cursive writing (Sec. 4). 

• Requires the academic objective for pupils to be able to write legibly in cursive by the end of grade 5 be included in a language arts curriculum plan by July 1, 2022 (Sec. 6).
