Title: Establishes the Category of Safety and Security Staff for K-12 Schools
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the category of safety and security staff for kindergarten through grade 12 public schools.
Establishes safety and security staff in both charter and public schools for students grades K-12 by the start of the 2021-2022 school year and requires they receive on-the-job training before becoming licensed (Sec. 1).
Requires that the following data and information be annually collected and submitted to the legislature, including (Sec. 2):
The total number of safety and security staff working in the district and in each school building;
The name of the safety and security staff working in the district and in each school building;
A description of each incident where safety and security staff were involved that resulted in:
Student discipline;
Use of force against another student; or
Student arrest.
Specifies that the aforementioned description include the students' race, ethnicity, and other related demographics (Sec. 2).
Requires former resource officers receive 2 days of on-the-job training before being licensed as a safety and security staff member while requiring non-former resource officers receive at least 6 check-in training periods throughout the first school year (Sec. 3).
