Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that authorizes certain contraceptive products to be dispensed without a prescription.
Authorizes a pharmacist to dispense self-administered contraceptives to a patient at least 18 years of age (Sec. 1A).
Authorizes a licensed contraceptive prescriber to issue a standing prescription drug order which allows the dispensing of self-administered contraceptives (Sec. 1B).
Requires the board associated with the Department of Health Services to adopt rules to establish standard procedures for pharmacists to dispense self-administered hormonal contraceptives (Sec. 1C).
Requires pharmacists under the standard procedures to do the following (Sec. 1C):
Obtain a completed self-screening risk assessment from each patient before dispensing the self-administered hormonal contraceptive; and
Provide the patient with information about the contraceptive.
Prohibits a pharmacist or prescriber acting reasonably and in good faith from being charged with civil damages (Sec. 1D).
Specifies that all state and federal laws governing insurance coverage of contraceptive products apply to self-administered hormonal contraceptives (Sec. 1E).
Exempts a valid, patient-specific prescription for hormonal contraception issued by an authorized prescriber from this section (Sec. 1F).
