Vote to pass a bill that authorizes emergency shelter beds for homeless senior citizens.

Highlights:

• Requires the Arizona Department of Housing to provide emergency shelter beds in western Maricopa County for homeless seniors that are at least 55 years of age (Sec. 1).

• Requires the department to contract with a single Arizona nonprofit provider that meets the following (Sec. 1):

• Has experience in sheltering 400 or more homeless individuals in temporary shelters;

• Has at least 10 years of experience working with chronically homeless individuals in Maricopa County;

• Has experience in providing housing placement services under the housing first model; and

• Participates in the coordinated entry system fitting the requirements of the Maricopa continuum care.
