Vote to pass a bill that authorizes people living in the Upper Peninsula to sit on a body that helps decide whether Michigan hunters can kill wolves, and no one else.

Highlights:

• Establishes the wolf management advisory council within the department of natural resources (Sec. 43540e).

• Specifies that the aforementioned council shall consist of the following members, including (Sec. 43540e):

• The director of the Department or their designee;

• One member representing an organization that promotes conservation in this state, appointed by the director or their designee;

• One member representing an organization that promotes hunting or fishing in this state, appointed by the director or their designee;

• One member representing a tribal government, appointed by the director or their designee;

• One member representing agricultural interests, appointed by the director or their designee; and

• One member representing an animal advocacy organization, appointed by the director or their designee.

• Requires that members of the wolf management advisory council all be residents (yoopers) of the upper peninsula (Sec. 43540e).

• Specifies that if the department determines through winter track surveys and genetic testing that wolves are present in the lower peninsula than the majority of the members of the council shall be residents of the upper peninsula (Sec. 43540e).
