Title: Prohibits Selling Dextromethorphan Without a Prescription
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits selling dextromethorphan, an ingredient found in cough syrup, without a prescription.
Defines "Dextromethorphan" (which is commonly found in cough syrup) as the dextrorotatory isomer of 3-methoxy-N-methylmorphinan, including its salts, but not including its racemic or levorotatory forms (Sec. 1).
Defines "Evidence of majority and identity" as a document issued by the federal government or a state, county, or municipal government, or a subdivision or agency of any of the foregoing, including a driver's or commercial driver's license or an identification card (Sec. 1).
Prohibits any retailer or employee from supplying, delivering, giving, or otherwise providing a drug, material, compound, mixture, preparation, or substance containing any quantity of dextromethorphan through the sale of any product to a person under 18 years of age, unless the person has been issued a prescription for the product being purchased (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an individual selling a product containing dextromethorphan should request evidence of majority and identity when an individual requests to purchase such a product, unless the individual outward appearance makes it seem as though they are least 25 years old (Sec. 1).
Establishes that violating the bill and selling dextromethorphan constitutes a minor misdemeanor (Sec. 1).
