Title: Authorizes Automatic Voter Registration at DMVs
Vote to pass a bill that allows automatic voter registration at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Specifies that any individual that goes to a DMV for a motor vehicle license will be automatically registered to vote, except if at the time of registration they provide a document that demonstrates non-citizenship (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the State Election Commissioner to implement automatic voter registration at other state agencies that already offer voter registration services under existing laws (Sec. 1).
Requires the DMV to provide to the Department of Elections all of the following information regarding an individual that has citizenship to register them to vote (Sec. 2):
The individual’s name;
The individual’s date of birth;
The individual’s driver’s license or state ID number;
The individual’s residence address and mailing address, if different from the residence address;
The individual’s county of residence;
The individual’s citizenship status;
An electronic image of the individual’s signature.
Requires the Department of Elections to notify registrants of their registration via mail, to allow them to decline their registration or affiliate with a political party (Sec. 2).
Specifies that individuals that do not affiliate with a political party during the automatic registration process will be allowed to do so at the polls (Sec. 2).
