Vote to pass a bill that authorizes new gas tax.

Highlights:

 

  • Increases taxes on motor gas for the next 5 years in the following order (Sec. 142.803, Pg 1):

    • Increases taxes on motor gas from 17 cents to 19 cents per gallon on January, 1st 2022;

    • Increases taxes on motor gas to 21 cents per gallon on January 1st, 2023;

    • Increases taxes on motor gas to 23 cents per gallon on January 1st, 2024;

    • Increases taxes on motor gas to 25 cents per gallon on January 1st, 2025; and 

    • Increases taxes on motor gas to 27 cents per gallon on January 1st, 2026. 

  • Specifies alternative fuels that are not sold or measured in gallons can be taxed based on the nearest power potential equivalent to one gallon of regular grade gasoline (Sec. 142-803, Pg 2).

  • Specifies aviation fuel taxes are set at 9 cents per gallon (Sec. 142.803 Pg 2).

  • Increases taxes on compressed natural gas fuel, liquified natural gas fuel, and propane gas fuel in the following order (Sec. 142.803 Pg 2-3):

    • Increases tax from 5 cents per gallon to 11 cents on January 1st, 2020 through December 31st, 2024; and

    • Increases tax to 17 cents per gallon from thereafter.
