Highlights:

 

  • Specifies a report of a lost or stolen firearm must include, and the law enforcement agency receiving the report must request, an accurate and detailed description of the firearm, including, the manufacturer, model, serial number, caliber, and any other identification number or distinguishing mark of the firearm being reported (Sec. 1-1.a).

  • Requires a person who previously reported a lost or stolen firearm who has found or recovered the firearm to report to the law enforcement agency that received the report that the firearm has been recovered (Sec. 1-1.b).

  • Establishes failure to report a lost or stolen firearm is a civil infraction punishable by a $25 fine and a second or subsequent offense is an unclassified misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $100 (Sec. 1-2).

  • Requires the law enforcement agency that receives this report to enter any available descriptive information related to the lost or stolen firearm into the National Crime Information Center Database and report the information to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation within 5 days after receiving the report (Sec. 1-4).
