Title: Establishes a New Position at the State Board of Elections

Vote to pass a bill that establishes a new position at the state Board of Elections to designate "low performing" election directors.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Chief Elections Assistance Officer to work under the supervision of the Director of the Elections Divisions of the Office of Secretary of State (Sec. 1).

  • Defines the following as requirements for the position Chief Elections Assistance Officer (Sec. 1):

    • Must have extensive personal experience in managing and conducting elections;

    • Have held the position of county election superintendent or county election supervisor or a senior management position with at least 5 years under the title; and

    • Additional education and experience.

  • Defines the following as duties of the Chief Elections Assistance Officer (Sec. 1):

    • Managing and overseeing a system of supports and assistance for county election superintendents in this state;

    • Annually establishing a list of third party specialists to assist county election superintendents with on-site evaluations

    • Coordinating with the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State to identify all state resources and supports available to the lowest- performing election superintendents; and

    • Identifying election assistance pursuant to low-performing election superintendents and recruit assistance coaches that have significant experience and training in election administration and election law.
