Title: Appropriates $3.5 Billion in School Funding

Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $3.5 billion for school funding, with $363 million only being allocated for districts committed to reopening in-person instruction by February 15.

Highlights:

 

  • Limits the Michigan Department of Education’s distribution of allocated funds in the following ways (Sec 23.b): 

    • No more than $85,000,000 for summer programs offered as part of covid remediation services; 

    • No more than $40,000,000 for credit recovery programs that are offered as part of the covid remediation services; and 

    • $18,202,954.00 for before-school, after-school, or before-and-after school programs that are offered as part of COVID-19 remediation services under this section.

  • Requires a district to apply for funding no later than March 15th 2021 to receive funding (Sec 23b)

  • Appropriates $550 per pupil in eligible summer and credit recovery programs that are offered as part of covid remediation services (Sec. 23b-5.b)

  • Appropriates $363 million for eligible school districts that offer in-person, face-to-face instruction by no later than February 15th, 2021 (Sec 98b).

  • Specifies that the Department of Education will pay $250 per pupil in districts where students participate in in-person learning (Sec. 98b).

  • Appropriates $11, 719, 195 to districts to begin a benchmark assessment system for the year 2021-22 (Sec 104a).
