Vote to pass a bill that requires commercial roofer contractors to have a license.

Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes any municipal corporation to require roofing contractors to successfully complete an examination, test, or demonstration of technical skills, and to impose a fee and additional requirements for a license to engage in their respective occupations (Sec 1).

  • Expands the Ohio construction industry licensing board to include 22 residents of the state and establishes a roofing section that consists of 5 members with the primary responsibility of the licensure of roofing contractors (Sec 1).

  • Authorizes the roofing section of the board to issue a license to any individual who (Sec 4):

    • Has been actively engaged as a roofing contractor in Ohio for at least 3 years immediately prior to the initial effective date of the act;

    • Applies to the roofing section of the board within 12 months of the initial effective date of the act;

    • Pays the appropriate fees;

    • Furnishes business records or other evidence to verify experience; and

    • Provides evidence of liability insurance and compliance with applicable legal requirements.
