Title: Requires Schools to Create Policies Transgender-Friendly Student Policies
Vote to pass a bill that requires schools to create policies that allow transgender students to feel safe.
Authorizes the Department of Education to develop model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public schools (Sec 1).
Specifies that the information, guidance, procedures, and standards should relate to (Sec 1):
Compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws;
Maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment;
Prevention of and response to bullying and harassment;
Maintenance of student records;
Identification of students;
Protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information;
Enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and
Student participation in sex-specific school activities and events.
Requires the Department of Education to make these policies available to school boards no later than December 31, 2020 (Sec 2).
Requires school boards to adopt policies no later than the beginning of the 2021-22 school year (Sec 3).
