Title: Requires Public and Private Employers to Provide Paid Quarantine Leave

Vote to pass a bill that requires public and private employers to provide eligible employees paid quarantine leave.

Highlights:

  • Requires employers to provide paid quarantine leave to eligible employees with equal pay for employees’ normal average 2-week period (Sec 40).

  • Requires paid quarantine when an employee meets the following criteria: (Sec 40)

    • The employees has health conditions or illness relating to COVID-19;

    • The employee must care for a family member will an illness or health condition relating to COVID-19; or

    • Health authorities or health providers determine that in caring for themselves or family members, employees may jeopardize the health of others due to exposure to COVID-19.

  • Defines “paid quarantine leave” as the time that is compensated at the same hourly rate and with the same benefits as what an employee normally earns during hours worked and is provided by an employer (Sec 40).

  • Defines “eligible employees” as an employee who works on average at least 20 hours a week (Sec 40).

  • Requires employees to request paid quarantine leave orally, in writing, by electronic means, or other means acceptable to the employer (Sec 40).

  • Prohibits an employer from requiring employees, who meet the above criteria, to find a replacement employee to cover hours (Sec 40).

  • Prohibits an employer from discharging, disciplining, threatening, discriminating, or penalizing in any form when an employee meets the above requirements (Sec 40).
