Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that exempts certain persons convicted of certain offenses involving minors from mandatory sex offender registration.

Highlights:

• Exempts persons convicted of subdivision (b) of Section 286, subdivision (b) of Section 287, or subdivision (h) or (i) of Section 289 from mandatory registration as a sex offender if, at the time of the offense, the person is not more than 10 years older than the minor, and the conviction is the only one requiring the person to register (Sec. 1-2).

• Specifies that this does not preclude a court from requiring a person to register (Sec. 2). 

• Requires any person, who is exempt from mandatory registration, if ordered by a court to register, to register if the court finds that the person committed the offense as a result of sexual compulsion or for purposes of sexual gratification (Sec. 3-4).
