Vote to pass a bill that repeals the residency requirement for law enforcement and emergency personnel in the city of St. Louis.
Prohibits commissioned and civilian personnel of a municipal police force, and public safety employees hired prior to September 1, 2023, from being subject to a residency requirement of retaining a primary residence in a city not within a county (Sec. A).
Authorizes commissioned and civilian personnel of a municipal police force, and public safety employees hired prior to September 1, 2023, to be required to maintain a primary residence located within a 1-hour response time of a city not within a county (Sec. A).
Authorizes commissioned and civilian personnel of a municipal police force, and public safety employees hired after August 31, 2023, to be subject to a 7-year residency requirement of retaining a primary residence in a city not within a county (Sec. A).
Defines “public safety employee” as a person trained or authorized by law or rule to render emergency medical assistance or treatment including, but not limited to (Sec. A):
Firefighters;
Ambulance attendants and attendant drivers;
Emergency medical technicians and paramedics;
Dispatchers;
Registered nurses;
Physicians; and
Sheriffs and deputy sheriffs.
