Vote to pass a bill that amends the qualifications for the role of executive director of the Utah Department of Health.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Department of Health’s executive director to meet the following qualifications if they are a physician (Sec. 1):

    • Hold a master’s degree of public health that has at least 3 years of professional full-time experience in a senior-level administrative role; or

    • Have at least a year of graduate work and at least 5 years of professional full-time experience, 3 of which must be in public health.

  • Requires the following qualifications for the role if the candidate is not a physician (Sec. 1):

    • Hold a master’s degree of public health or public administration; and

    • Have at least 5 years of professional full-time experience, 2 of which must be in public health; or

    • Have at least 5 years of full-time professional experience in public health, 3 of which must be in a senior-level, full-time capacity. 

  • Requires the deputy director to be a physician if the executive director is not one themself (Sec. 1). 

  • Specifies that this bill takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 2).
