Title: Expands List of Medical Conditions That Pharmacists May Treat
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that expands the list of medical conditions that pharmacists may treat in an emergency.
Establishes a collaborative pharmacy practice agreement program between eligible pharmacists and physicians (Sec. 3).
Requires collaborative pharmacy practice agreements to include the following (Sec. 3):
The collaborating physician’s patients’ names;
Each chronic health condition to be collaboratively managed;
Specific medicinal drugs to be managed by the pharmacist;
Circumstances under which the pharmacist may order or perform laboratory tests;
Conditions upon which the pharmacist must notify the physician and the timeframe in which a notification must occur;
Beginning and ending dates for the agreement and termination procedures; and
A statement that the agreement may be terminated by either party at any time.
Defines “chronic health conditions” as any of the following (Sec. 3):
Arthritis;
Asthma;
Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases;
Type 2 diabetes;
HIV/AIDS;
Obesity; or
Any other chronic condition adopted by the Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
Authorizes pharmacists in a collaborative pharmacy practice agreement to provide specified patient care services to a physician’s patients (Sec. 3).
Specifies that a collaborative pharmacy practice agreement expires 2 years after execution if not renewed (Sec. 3).
Authorizes pharmacists to test for and treat any of the following health conditions (Sec. 4):
Influenza;
Strep throat;
Lice;
Athlete’s foot; and
Minor, uncomplicated infections.
Specifies that this bill takes effect on July 1, 2020 (Sec. 5).
