Vote to adopt a conference report that upholds United States policy regarding AIDS and HIV by extending the Ryan White CARE Act of 1990 through 2000.

Highlights:

  • Provides grants to cities and states to fund treatment services for AIDS victims and their families.
  • Revises the formula for allocation of funds and grants, including criteria based on the number of people living with AIDS in a city and the cost of providing services.
  • Requires each city with a population of at least 500,000 and to have at least 2,000 cases of HIV/AIDS within a 5 year period in order to be eligible for emergency relief grants.
