Vote to amend and pass a bill that expands death benefits to the families of public works employees killed in the line of duty.

Highlights:

 

  • Establishes an occupational safety & health standards advisory board consisting of the following members (Sec. 2):

    • 3 governor-appointed representatives of public employers that represent state agencies, counties and municipalities;

    • 3 governor-appointed representatives of public employers that represent state, school and municipal employees;

    • One governor-appointed representative of an insurance company licensed to ensure workers’ compensation;

    • One representative of Keene State WorkWISE NH, appointed by them;

    • 2 governor-appointed members of the public; and

    • One member of the state house of representatives, appointed by the speaker.

  • Requires the state treasurer to pay a $100,000 death benefit to the family of a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, rescue squad member, or public works employee killed in the line of duty (Sec. 4). 

  • Prohibits death benefit compensation from limiting an individual bargaining unit from negotiating wages, terms and conditions specific to that bargaining unit (Sec. 7).

  • Specifies that this bill takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 8).
