Title: Extends Sexual Battery Prosecution Time Limitations
Vote to pass a bill that establishes exceptions to general time limitations allowing prosecution to be commenced at any time for specified sexual battery offenses against victims younger than a certain age.
Establishes that prosecutions are subject to the following periods of limitation (Sec. 2):
A prosecution for a first-degree felony must be commenced within four years after its occurrence;
A prosecution for any other felony must be commenced within three years after its occurrence;
A prosecution for a first-degree misdemeanor must be commenced within two years after its occurrence; and
A prosecution for a second-degree misdemeanor or noncriminal violation must be commenced a year after its occurrence.
Establishes that if a minor was the victim of any offense that occurred on or after July 1, 2020, the prosecution may be commenced at any time (Sec. 2).
Establishes that this bill takes effect on July 1, 2020 (Sec. 3).
