Vote to amend and pass a bill that requires adding lessons on the "Ocoee Election Day Riots" to the state's school curriculum, and expands instruction related to the Holocaust and anti-Semitism.

Highlights:

• Requires the Commissioner of Education’s African American History Task Force to examine ways to incorporate the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Riots into the Florida school curriculum (Sec. 1).

• Requires the aforementioned task force to submit its recommendations to the State Board of Education by March 1, 2021 (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Secretary of State to determine how state museums will incorporate the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Riots through exhibits and programs (Sec. 2). 

• Requires the Secretary of Environmental Protection to determine which state park will be named after any victim of the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Riots (Sec. 3). 

• Establishes that public school boards are encouraged to assess opportunities for naming schools after victims of the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Riots (Sec. 4). 

• Requires school boards to effectively teach the Holocaust and classes to detect and fight anti-Semitism (Sec. 5). 

• Establishes that the second week in November shall be designated as “Holocaust Education Week” (Sec. 5).

• Establishes that this bill takes effect on July 1, 2020 (Sec. 6).
