Vote to amend and pass a bill that establishes a task force to study and develop reparation proposals for African Americans.

Highlights:

 

  • Establishes the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans (Sec. 1, Article 2). 

  • Establishes that the task force will be comprised of 8 members as follows (Sec. 1, Article 2):

    • 2 members appointed by the governor;

    • 3 members appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate; and

    • 3 members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly.

  • Requires the task force to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the legislature no later than one year after its first meeting (Sec. 1, Article 2). 

  • Requires that the members of the task force represent communities of color and have experience working in racial justice (Sec. 1, Article 2). 

  • Requires the governor to call the task force’s first meeting by June 1, 2021 (Sec. 1, Article 2). 

  • Authorizes the task force to hold hearings, request attendance and testimony of witnesses, and enter into contracts for conducting research, preparing reports and other appropriate activities (Sec. 1, Article 4). 

  • Establishes that this bill shall remain in effect until July 1, 2023, and as of that date is repealed (Sec. 1, Article 7).
