Vote to pass a bill that requires courts to compile and publish data on misdemeanors and violations, and law enforcement departments on arrest-related deaths.

Highlights:

• Requires all courts to compile and publish data on misdemeanor offenses and violations, disaggregated by county, including but not limited to (Sec. 1):

• The aggregate number of misdemeanors and violations charged;

• The offense or violation charged;

• The race, ethnicity, age, and sex of the individual charged;

• The location or precinct where the alleged misdemeanor or violation occurred;

• The disposition;

• In the case of dismissal, the reasons therefor; and

• Any sentences imposed. 

• Requires the chief administrator to make this information available in the annual report submitted to the legislature and governor, and available to the public by posting it on the office of the court administration’s website, to be updated monthly (Sec. 1).

• Requires law enforcement divisions to compile and publish data on arrest-related deaths, disaggregated by county, including but not limited to (Sec. 1):

• The number of arrest-related deaths; 

• The race, ethnicity, age, and sex of the individual;

• The location where the death occurred; and

• A brief description of the circumstances surrounding the arrest-related death.

• Defines “arrest-related death” as a death that occurs while an individual is in law enforcement custody or during an attempt to establish custody (Sec. 1).

• Requires the law enforcement division to make this information available in the annual report submitted to the legislature and governor, and available to the public by posting it on the division’s website, to be updated monthly (Sec. 1).
