Title: Repeals the Residency Requirement for Municipal Police Forces
Vote to pass a bill that removes the residency requirement for officers on municipal police forces.
Prohibits a local governmental unit from requiring as a condition of employment that any currently employed or prospective law enforcement officers reside within any jurisdictional limit (Sec. A).
Specifies that if a local governmental unit has a residency rule or requirement for law enforcement officers in effect on or before August 28, 2020, the residency rule will not be enforced (Sec. A).
Authorizes a local governmental unit to impose a residency rule or requirement on law enforcement officers, but specifies that the rule or requirement be no more restrictive than requiring such personnel to reside within a one-hour response time (Sec. A).
Specifies that the provisions of this act do not apply to the Missouri state highway patrol (Sec. A).
Specifies that no employee of a city not within a county will be required as a condition of employment to reside within city limits (Sec. A).
Defines “local governmental unit” as any city, village, town, county, township, or the board of police or board the board of police commissioners (Sec. A).
