Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes the governor to annually appropriate $10 million to the Maryland Violence Intervention and Prevention Program Fund (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the governor to annually include an appropriation of at least $3 million to the Maryland Violence Intervention and Prevention Program Fund in the annual budget bill (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the governor to appropriate $3.6 million to Baltimore City to be used to provide grants to community-based operations that operate violence prevention or intervention programs by a community-based organization in a neighborhood that is disproportionately affected by violent crime, called the Safe Streets Initiatives (Sec. 1).

  • Prohibits a grant made with funds by the Safe Street Initiative from (Sec. 1):

    • Requiring a matching fund; 

    • Exceeding $600,000 per initiative; or

    • Supplant grant funding otherwise available for Safe Street Initiatives.
