Title: Authorizes Compensation for College Athletes

  • Prohibits postsecondary educational institutions from preventing student-athletes from earning compensation from the use of the student’s name, image, or likeness (Sec 3). 

  • Prohibits any athletic association, conference, or other groups including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from earning compensation from the use of the student’s name, image, or likeness (Sec 3). 

  • Prohibits postsecondary educational institutions, athletic associations, conferences, or other groups from providing or offering a prospective student-athlete with compensation related to the use of the student’s name, image, or likeness (Sec 3). 

  • Prohibits postsecondary educational institutions, athletic associations, conferences, or other groups from preventing student-athletes from obtaining professional representation in relation to contracts or legal matters (Sec 3). 

  • Requires professional representation for student-athletes to be licensed by the state of Florida (Sec 3). 

  • Specifies that professional representation can include, but is not limited to an athlete agent or attorney (Sec 3). 

  • Specifies that a scholarship from a postsecondary educational institution the student-athlete attends that meets the cost of attendance is not compensation (Sec 3). 

  • Prohibits scholarships for student-athletes from being revoked because of the student receiving compensation or obtaining professional representation (Sec 3). 

  • Specifies that this act is effective as of July 1st, 2020 (Sec 4).
