Title: Expands Access to Accessory Dwelling Unit Construction

Vote to concur with house amendments and pass a bill that expands access to accessory dwelling units (ADUs) by establishing certain ADU construction regulations, effective July 1, 2021.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits cities from requiring off-street parking for accessory dwelling units located within one quarter mile of a major transit stop with the following exceptions: 

    • The unit is in an area with a lack of access to street parking; or

    • Physical space would make on-street parking infeasible (Sec 4). 

  • Specifies that cities that have amended or adopted ADU regulations within the past 4 years of the effective date are not subject to the requirements of this section (Sec 4). 

  • Requires cities to adopt these requirements into zoning and development regulations by July 1, 2021 (Sec 3).
