Title: Requires Sick Leave
Vote to pass a bill that requires public and private employers to offer sick leave.
Requires that earned paid sick time to be provided by an employer for (Sec. 1):
An employee’s mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition;
An employee’s need for medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of an illness, injury, or health condition; or
An employee’s need for preventative medical care;
Care of a family member with a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition;
Care of a family member who needs medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition;
Care of a family member who needs preventative medical care;
The closure of the employee’s place of business by order of a public official due to a public health emergency or an employee’s need to care for a child whose school or place of care has been closed by order of a public official due to a public health emergency; or
The care for oneself or a family member when it has been determined by the health authorities having jurisdiction or by a health care provider that the employee’s or family member’s presence in the community may jeopardize the health of others because of his or her exposure to a communicable disease, whether or not the employee or family member has actually contracted the communicable disease.
Specifies that earned paid sick leave be provided upon the request of an employee, and such a request should include the expected duration of the absence (Sec. 1).
Requires all employees accrue a minimum of one hour of earned paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked (Sec. 1).
Prohibits an employee from earning or using more than 40 hours of earned paid sick time in a year unless the employer selects a higher limit (Sec. 1).
Defines “employer” as an employer that employs 15 or more employees (Sec. 1).
Specifies that any employer who knowingly violates this act is subject to a civil penalty of up to $150 for the first violation, up to $300 for the second violation, and up to $500 for each subsequent violation that occurs within 2 years of any previous violation (Sec. 1).
