Title: Repeals State Photo Identification Voter ID Laws
Vote to pass a bill that repeals state voter ID laws regarding photo identification requirements.
Requires an individual to present any one of the following forms of identification to be considered a qualified voter (Sec. 1):
Their voter confirmation documents;
Their valid Virginia driver’s license, passport, or any other identification with or without a photograph, issued by the state, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States;
Any valid student identification with or without a photograph, issued by any institution of higher education in the state or any private school in the state;
Any valid student identification card issued by any institution of higher education located in any other state or territory of the United States;
Any valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter and issued by an employer of the voter in the ordinary course of the employer’s business; or
A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document containing the name and address of the voter.
Specifies that the expiration date on a Virginia driver’s license will not be considered when determining the validity of the driver’s license offered (Sec. 1).
Specifies that any voter not able to show one of the forms of identification specified in the above highlight will be allowed to vote after signing a statement, subject to felony penalties for making false statements, that they are the named registered voter (Sec. 1).
Requires any individual required by certain provisions in the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to show identification the first time they vote in a federal election in the state, to present (Sec. 1):
A current and valid photo identification; or
A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the name and address of the voter.
Requires those choosing to vote through absentee ballots to provide, in the presence of the registrar, one of the forms of identification listed in the first highlight, or to sign a statement, subject to felony penalties for making false statements, that they are the named registered voter (Sec. 1).
