Title: Requires Warning Labels on Lottery Tickets

Vote to pass with amendment a bill that requires warning labels on all lottery tickets.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires that by January 1, 2020 every state contract with vendors, advertisement, or promotion of lottery games include a provision or warning that meets all the following requirements (Sec. 1):

    • A warning in black font behind a white background occupying at least 10 percent of the surface area of the advertisement if on TV, internet, or any other electronic medium;

    • A warning in prominent text occupying at least 10 percent of the surface area of the advertisement or promotion if in print, including newspapers, magazines, or billboards;

    • An audibly announced warning at the conclusion of the advertisement if on the radio;

  • Specifies that the warning shall have either of the following texts (Sec. 1):

    • “WARNING: LOTTERY GAMES MAY BE ADDICTIVE”; or

    • “PLAY RESPONSIBLY”.

  • Requires that the aforementioned warning must be on every lottery ticket printed on or after January 1, 2021 (Sec. 2).
