Vote to pass a bill that prohibits employers from asking job applicants about their criminal history.
Defines “employer” as an individual, partnership, association, corporation, or governmental agency or instrumentality employing any person (Sec. 1).
Specifies that “employer” shall not include any bank holding company, financial holding company, bank, savings bank, savings, and loan association, credit union, trust company, or any subsidiary or affiliate thereof (Sec. 1).
Specifies that any state or government agency may still require an applicant’s criminal background or history for employment (Sec. 1).
Prohibits an employer from including a question on whether the applicant has ever been arrested, charged with, or convicted of any crime or violation on a job application (Sec. 1).
Establishes that this act shall take effect on January 1, 2020 (Sec. 2).
