Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Department of State Health Services School Health Advisory Committee to develop model policies for recess periods that encourage constructive, age-appropriate outdoor playtime and maximize the efficacy of outdoor physical activity (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the local school health advisory council to adopt a recess policy based on model policies and recommendations developed in the preceding highlight (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the recess policy to specify (Sec. 1):

    • The required number of minutes of weekly unstructured playtime; and

    • If a student’s recess time can be withheld for discipline-related reasons.

  • Requires each school district campus to implement the recess policy (Sec. 1).
