Title: Extends Deadline for 100 Percent Cage-Free Eggs Requirement
Vote to concur with house amendments and pass a bill that extends the requirements for 100 percent cage-free eggs to 2024.
Prohibits any shipping crates used in the shipment of birds by common carrier from being used as an exhibition coop (Sec. 40).
Prohibits farm owners or operators from doing either of the following: (Sec. 46):
Tethering or confining a covered animal on a farm for all of or the majority of a day, in a manner that prevents the covered animal from lying down, standing up, turning around freely, or fully extending its limbs; or
Tethering or confining an egg-laying hen on a farm in an enclosure other than a cage-free housing system, or with less than the amount of usable floor space per hen as provided in the housing guidelines for cage-free production.
Specifies that the bill’s provisions regarding egg-laying or shell hens go into effect on December 31, 2024 (Sec. 46).
Specifies that the bill’s provisions regarding gestating sows will become effective April 1, 2020 (Sec. 46).
