Title: Authorizes School Police to Make Arrests
Vote to pass with amendment a bill that authorizes school police officers to make arrests.
Authorizes school law enforcement officers to exercise the same powers granted to the police of the municipality in which the school is located (Sec. 2).
Requires a school security guard to successfully complete the Basic School Resource Officer Court offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers, or an equivalent course of instruction approved by the commission, prior to entering upon the duties of the office (Sec. 2).
Authorizes high school students, beginning with those expected to graduate in 2021, to apply up to 1 credit earned from a personal finance course to the student’s social studies, family and consumer science, mathematics, or business education credit requirement for graduation (Sec. 3).
Requires students applying for a Fostering Independence through Education waiver for public higher education to apply for all available federal and state grants in order to be eligible (Sec. 5).
