Vote to pass a bill that authorizes veterinarian prescription of medical cannabis for animals.

Highlights:

• Requires the Veterinary Medical Board to adopt guidelines for veterinarians to follow when recommending cannabis within the veterinarian-client-patient relationship and post these guidelines on its website (Sec. 3). 

• Authorizes a California licensed veterinarian to discuss the use of medicinal cannabis or medicinal cannabis products on an animal patient (Sec. 3). 

• Prohibits the Veterinary Medical Board from disciplining, denying, revoking, or suspending the license of a California licensed veterinarian solely for recommending the use of cannabis on an animal patient (Sec. 3). 

• Requires the client to be 21 years or older and to be the owner of the animal patient in order to purchase and administer cannabis products (Sec. 4).
