Title: Prohibits the Sale and Manufacturing of Fur Products
Vote to pass with amendment a bill that prohibits the sale or manufacturing of fur products.
Prohibits the manufacturing, sale, trade, and distribution of fur and fur products, with the following exceptions (Sec. 1):
Used fur products;
Fur or fur products used for religious purposes; or
Fur or fur products used for traditional tribal, cultural, or spiritual purposes by Native American tribes.
Specifies that “fur product” does not include the following (Sec. 1):
Cowhide;
Leathers;
Deerskin, sheepskin, or goatskin; or
Pelts or animal skin for the purposes of taxidermy.
Requires vendors and traders of used fur products to maintain a record of used fur sales for at least one year (Sec. 1).
Establishes the following penalties for violations of this bill (Sec.1):
A $500 civil penalty for the first violation;
A $750 civil penalty for the second violation within one year of a previous transgression; and
A $1,000 civil penalty for a violation that occurs within one year of a second violation.
Specifies that the monies from all of these civil penalties will be deposited into the Fish and Game Preservation Fund and used for the enforcement of this bill (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this act shall take effect on January 1, 2023 (Sec. 3.5).
