Title: Requires Accuracy of Maine's Meat and Poultry Labeling
Vote to pass a bill that requires complete accuracy in Maine's meat and poultry labeling.
Classifies labeling or advertising poultry, poultry products, meat, or meat products that are offered for sale, sold, or distributed within Maine as “Maine-raised” or by a similar designation, as mislabeling poultry and meat if the poultry or animal was not raised in Maine (Sec. 1).
Specifies that “raised in Maine” means that (Sec. 1):
For poultry and poultry products, the poultry was raised in Maine from no later than the 7th day after hatching and processed solely in Maine; and
For meat and meat products, that the animal was born, raised and processed in Maine.
Authorizes the commissioner to waive any determinations made that poultry, a poultry product, meat or a meat product, is misbranded if the commissioner finds a waiver warranted due to economic factors (Sec. 1).
