Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that establishes paid sick leave for certain employees.

Highlights:

• Requires an employer that has more than 10 employees in regular course of business for 120 days provide each employee with paid leave based on the employee’s base pay (Sec. 3).

• Requires an employee be entitled to one hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked (Sec. 3).

• Requires that the employee taking the earned paid leave shall be paid at the same base rate of pay and have access to the same benefits as would otherwise be available (Sec. 3).

• Prohibits any punishment or loss of benefits such as health insurance to any employee taking earned paid leave (Sec. 3).

• Specifies that the Department of Labor shall adopt rules to implement and enforce the provisions of this section (Sec. 3).

• Specifies that this act shall not apply to an employee covered by a collective bargaining agreement during the period between January 1, 2021 and the expiration of the agreement (Sec. 3).

• Specifies that this act shall take effect January 1, 2021 (Sec. 4).
