Title: Prohibits the Department of Education from Establishing Maximum Salaries for Superintendents
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the state department of education from establishing maximum salaries for superintendents.
Specifies that the Commissioner of the Educational Services Commission shall have final approval on the employment contracts and requires that the standards shall not include a maximum salary amount for school superintendents (Sec. 1).
Requires that the employment contracts of school superintendents and assistant superintendents shall be consistent with the following standards, including, but not limited to (Sec. 3):
Comparable with the salary, benefits, and other emoluments contained in the contracts of similarly credentialed and experienced administrators; and
No travel requirements inconsistent with the State Board of Education provisions for mileage reimbursement;
Specifies that contractual provisions regarding sick leave accumulation and supplemental compensation shall be paid out only at the time of retirement and not to an individual’s estate or beneficiaries in the event of their death prior to retirement (Sec. 3).
Prohibits any bonuses from being made except where payment of the bonus is contingent upon achievement of measurable specific performances (Sec. 3).
Prohibits any contract from including a provision for additional compensation upon the acquisition of a graduate degree unless the graduate degree is conferred by a regionally accredited college or university (Sec. 3).
Establishes that this act shall take effect immediately (Sec. 4).
