Vote to pass a bill that requires cities with more than 25,000 residents pass ordinances that authorize duplexes.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires cities with populations of more than 25,000 residents within a metropolitan service district allow for the development of detached single-family dwellings and duplexes on lots zoned for residential use (Sec. 2).

  • Authorizes cities with populations greater than 10,000 residents but fewer than 25,000 residents to develop duplexes on lots zoned for single-family dwellings, but specifies that these ordinances are not required (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that this act shall not apply to the following, including (Sec. 2):

    • Cities with populations of 1,000 or fewer;

    • Land not within an urban growth boundary;

    • Land not incorporated in a metropolitan district and lacking sufficient urban services; and

    • Land not zoned for residential use.

  • Appropriates $3.5 million to the Department of Land Conservation and Development for the purpose of providing technical assistance to local governments for the implementation of this act, beginning July 1, 2019 (Sec. 14).

  • Establishes that this act shall go into effect immediately upon its passage (Sec. 16).
