Vote to pass a bill that authorizes bicyclists to yield at stop signs.

Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes an individual operating a bicycle and approaching an intersection controlled by a stop sign to do any of the following, including, but not limited to (Sec. 2):

    • Proceed through the intersection without stopping;

    • Make a right or left turn into a two-way street; or

    • Make a right or left turn into a one-way street in the direction of traffic.

  • Specifies that an individual operating a bicycle will be guilty of a Class D traffic violation if they fail to do the following, including (Sec. 2):

    • Yield the right of way to traffic lawfully within the intersection;

    • Exercise care to avoid an accident; or

    • Yield the right of way to a pedestrian in an intersection or crosswalk.

  • Authorizes an individual operating a bicycle and approaching an intersection controlled by a flashing red signal to do any of the following, including, but not limited to (Sec. 3):

    • Proceed through the intersection without stopping;

    • Make a right or left turn into a two-way street; or

    • Make a right or left turn into a one-way street in the direction of traffic.
