Title: Authorizes Compensation for College Athletes
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes compensation for college athletes.
Prohibits postsecondary educational institutions, athletic associations, conferences, or other groups with similar authority regarding intercollegiate athletics, from (Sec. 2):
Obstructing an intercollegiate student athlete in receiving financial compensation for anything using the athlete’s name, image, or likeness;
Obstructing intercollegiate athletes in getting professional representation; and
Giving financial compensation associated with name, image, or likeness to prospective student athletes.
Prohibits the financial compensation a student obtains from their name, image, or likeness to alter the student’s scholarship eligibility (Sec. 2).
Prohibits athletic associations, conferences, or other groups with similar authority regarding intercollegiate athletics, from blocking the participation of a postsecondary educational institution in intercollegiate athletics because of a student athlete’s financial compensation received from their name, image, or likeness (Sec. 2).
Requires the professional representation of intercollegiate athletes to be licensed by the State and comply with the federal Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this bill goes into effect January 1, 2023 (Sec. 2).
